Express Holds Tryouts for 2010-2011 Season Southern Express Softball has set tentative tryout dates in July/August 2010 for the upcoming 2010-2011 season. Please check back to this site often for team openings and updates. Click here for current information! Southern Express is on Facebook! Visit our Facebook site and become a fan! “Class of 2010” College Signings Although the 2010 IHSA softball season hasn’t yet started, there are several Southern Express girls that have signed letters of intent to play college softball. ● Leslie Bridges Murphysboro’s Leslie Bridges (pictured) signed a letter of intent to play softball at Division I Murray State University. Bridges finished her career with the Murphysboro Red Devils, earning 2nd Team “All State” honors in the 1A & 2A Division; Southern Illinoisan “All-South” honors, and Southern Illinoisan “Scholar-Athlete” honors. ● Kelsea Ashton Carterville’s Kelsea Ashton signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Division I Salukis of Southern Illinois University. Ashton finished her career with the Carterville Lions, and earned “All-State” honors in the 1A & 2A Division; and Southern Illinoisan “All-South” honors. ● Taylor Orsburn Cobden’s Taylor Orsburn (pictured) decided to play for the D-1 SIU Salukis. Orsburn finished her prep career at Coben, the three-time defending Illinois State Champions in the 1A Divions. Orsburn held the title of “Southern Illinoisan Player of the Year” for the past three consecutive seasons; and finished this season with “All State” honors and Southern Illinoisan “All-South” honors. ● Ame Whitlock Eldorado’s Ame Whitlock signed a letter of intent to the play for the Screaming Eagles of the University of Southern Indiana. ● Morganne Rogers Carmi-White County standout, Morganne Rogers, will play for Wabash Valley. Rogers finished her prep career for the Bulldogs. ● Rachel Hayden Anna-Jonesboro’s Rachel Hayden (pictured), landed a scholarship with William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. Hayden finished her senior year with the Anna-Jonesboro Wildcat, while earning Southern Illinoisan “All-South” honors. ● Ragan Dunn has signed-on to finish her college career with Division-1 Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO. Dunn (pictured) finished her first two years playing for John A. Logan College, helping to lead her team to the 2010 NJCAA national tournament. 2010 SI “Athlete of the Week” Honors Each week during the softball and baseball season, the Southern Illinoisan Newspaper honors top players from across the region. Take a look at the following Express girls that have been featured: ● Sarah DaRosa Carterville’s Sarah DaRosa is spotlighted for stepping into the starting pitching sport for the Lady Lions [May 6, 2010]. ● Leslie Bridges Murphysboro’s Leslie Bridges earns accolades at the top pitcher and one of the best hitters for the Red Devils. [April 29, 2010] ● Mo Ramsey The versatile Pinckneyville pitcher put up some noticeable stats early in the season to lead her team to a tournament championship. [April 1, 2010] Express Players Earn“All State” Honors Congratulations to current and former Southern Express girls earning All-State Honors for the 2009-2010 softball season.
