Express Players Earn 2009 “All State” Honors
|
|
Congratulations to current and former Southern Express girls earning All-State Honors for the 2008-2009 softball season. First Team: Jenna Cochran [Elverado]; Mandi Kellerman [Pinckneyville]; Taylor Orsborn [Cobden] Second Team: Kayla Quertermous [Cobden]; Kelsea Ashton [Carterville]; Mollie Thomas [Carterville]; Nicole Cheek [Pinckneyville]; Kenzi Tate [Mt.Vernon]. Third Team: Lexi Cremeens [Mt. Vernon]. Although the 2010 IHSA softball season hasn’t yet started, there are several Southern Express girls that have signed letters of intent to play college softball. ● Leslie Bridges Murphysboro’s Leslie Bridges (pictured) signed a letter of intent to play softball at Division I Murray State University. Entering her senior year, Bridges has compiled a 33-10 record for the Red Devils. Her versatility helped land her a spot with the Racers. She has notched 408 strikeouts, and is a .350 career hitter. ● Kelsea Ashton Carterville’s Kelsea Ashton signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Division I Salukis of Southern Illinois Univeristy. Entering her senior year at the shortstop position, Ashton brings back a strong .398 batting average from last season. ● Taylor Orsburn Cobden’s Taylor Orsburn decided to play for the D-1 SIU Salukis several months ago, but made the commitment official in November. Orsburn has held the title of “Southern Illinoisan Player of the Year” for the past two consecutive seasons. ● Ame Whitlock Eldorado’s Ame signed a letter of intent to the play for the Screaming Eagles of the University of Southern Indiana. ● Morganne Rogers will play for Wabash Valley. Rogers will finish her senior year with the Carmi Bulldogs.
